FAQ

At the Family History Society of Buchan, we’ve done our best to create a Web site that anticipates and satisfies your needs.  With that goal in mind, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions.

If you do not find an answer to your question here, contact us, and we will do our best to help you.

Payment

Q. How do I pay for any orders?
A. Please use the on-line shop where you can pay by PayPal, which is our trusted payment partner.  Using PayPal you can pay using your credit or debit card – you don’t need a PayPal account to use this service.  If you are buying from us at the FHSB centre in Peterhead, you can also pay with cash (UK Pounds) or UK cheques.

Q. Can I pay in my local currency.
A. No,  Sadly, this service had to be ceased some years ago.   The reason we stopped doing this is the bank charges on each transaction mean we make big a loss every time we present an overseas cheque.  (Banks take a minimum of around £5.00 for every overseas cheque presented to them.)

Product / Service Questions

Q.  Does the “software” on your CDs run on MACs or PCs?
A.  Our CDs contain standard “pdf” or “html” documents.  “.pdf” documents can be read with free software called Adobe Reader, which is available to all.  “html” documents can be read with most “web browsers”.  Popular web browsers include “Firefox”, “Chrome”, Internet Explorer and “Safari”.   Please read the additional information and confirm that you can run the CD’s on your system before purchasing them.  We have tested them on PCs only.

Miscellaneous

Q. Can I volunteer to work on Projects even though I do not reside in Scotland?
A.  Most definitely YES, please contact us

Q. Why have you changed “internet domains” and have why do you have a new web site?
A. Our web site volunteer left and sadly the original domain and site was  lost to us.  A new designer has been engaged to develop this new site.  We hope you like the new look!  If you have any comments on the new site, please contact us
